Tinker Bell Fairy Cake

This cake is inspired by Freed's Bakery Fairy pond cake.   I ordered the Disney fairies from Amazon.com and they can be reused as stamps by the birthday girl.

50th Birthday Cake

This was my 1st time doing a cake in silver.  This was a test of my patience and confidence - but I prevailed--yay!!!  A wonderful lady had her 50th birthday this past weekend and commissioned this cake.  Her colors were silver and white and when I was discussing her cake with her- I had a picture of a cake that I thought was lovely and would be perfect adapted to the and colors that she wanted.  This is how it turned out and I couldn't be happier.
Note on Silver-- It takes a lot of silver luster dust to create this wonderful shade of silver.  I started spraying it first with chefmate silver spray--since I don't own an airbrush machine yet--soon hopefully-- and then because our local cake store didn't have anymore in stock, I had to switch to the dust.  Overall thoughts are- I think the spray works better at covering large areas since the luster dust has to be painted on and you can see the brush strokes in the right light-- luckily her party was in the dark and the lines weren't visible
I was given the advice to color the fondant with a couple drops of black gel color and a couple drops of royal blue gel color.  I thought it looked too gray- didn't have the shiny affect that I was looking for.  Learned a lot on this cake and am ready for the next one.

Baby Carriage cake

This baby carriage cake is 3 layers of chocolate chip pound cake with white chocolate cream filling--ummm-yummy!!!  I am not a seamstress, but took on the task of sewing this carriage skirt and attaching it to my board.  I think I did a pretty good job considering I don't work with a sewing machine much.  It has actually inspired me to try and make some of my chidren's dresses.  We will see how that endeavor works out and who knows-- I might have found another hobby!!!
Back to the carriage-- I threaded some floral wire through some powder blue tulle and shaped it to form the cover of the carriage and then covered some dowel rods with fondant and sprayed them silver for the handle.  I have done a cake like this before and have learned from both experiences on ways to improve this cake.

Flowers and flowers

My sister and I decorated this cake for a birthday girl, her mother and her grandmother.  The flowers are fondant flowers that she painstakingly stamped out and then molded-- we lost count of how many we actually put on this cake.

Veggie Tales Dedication Cake

Veggie Tales

Larry the Cucumber
Bob the Tomato

Veggie Tales is not something that I have watched a lot of- even with having 2 little girls at home.  I have watched it a couple of times, so I know who the main characters are.  After making this cake, I have decided that I am going to go and get some of the dvds and let my girls wathc it.  It is comfortaing knowing that there is a Christian based cartoon that my girls can watch and I am not concerned that they are being exposed to propaganda.
That being said, I was asked to make this Veggie Tales cake for a dedication of a little girl and boy.  I wanted it to have something that the characters say on the show, so since the internet is so wonderful and I don't have any of the dvds to consult, I searched "veggie tales sayings" and was rewarded.  This saying fit so perfect-- " God made you special and He loves you very much!"
I love that saying and have told my girls that every day since I read it and of course I add "and so do I" at the end of it.

Toilet Bowl Cake

"bathroom floor"

"poo" is chocolate buttercream, "water" is piping gel colored blue

This was my first toilet bowl cake.  Apparantly, there is a bunch of these made, be it for an "Over the Hill" birthday, plumber school graduation or just to be funny.  I researched  the web for ideas before I started and was amazed at some of the toilet cakes that have been created.  Buddy on the "The Cake Boss" made one that actually flushed--mine does not!!  Most of the cakes were saying "Everything turns to S*** after ##.  We decided to change it up for younger eyes.

I had some trouble with structure and getting the cake for the bowl to stay up--so it looks like its tilting- oh well.  I don't think it's too bad for my first try.  The tank is made out of RKT and I built a support platform for that to sit on out of a cardboard box.  The lid is a styrofoam board that I wrapped in fondant.  I made the water from piping gel and added some blue coloring.  The "poo" is chocolate buttercream.  The board is also covered in fondant - I measured out squares and then painted them to look like a bathroom tiled floor.  And of course, you can't have a toilet without a plunger nearby.

All in all, I think it turned out ok.  Of course, I am my biggest critic--well maybe 2nd to my husband.  -- but he is also my biggest fan!  It took me 7 hours to make start to finish with several breaks in between.
I hope the birthday boy gets a kick out of it!!

Princess Cake with Crown Topper

Princess Cake

Smash Cake

We all think that our little girls are perfect princesses and what better way to let everyone else know they are than to celebrate their first birthdays in royal fashion with a beautiful princess cake.  This cake is a 3 tier marble pound cake with buttercream icing and filling.  The details are done in fondant and gumpaste.  The crown, wand and butterfly are gumpaste and were make several days in advance.   Such a fun way to spend a week-- making a perfect cake for a perfect little princess!
I have to give credit to Pink Cake Box for the design of this cake.  The girl I made it for, found this cake online and loved it, so I did my best to recreate it.
